Over Presidents Day Weekend I went to The Villages, Fla. to see my grandmother and her sister, my Great Aunt Flo, who was visiting from Saratoga, NY.

While there, I made a visit to The Village's luxrious recreation center, Captiva, where Karen's work was recently placed by the Village's interior design group.

The center is beautifully done in a very-Florida beach theme.

Karen's 3 Fav. Exhibitors at NYIGF

In the moments of free-time Karen found at NYIGF she hurried through the aisles of Pier 94 to get a glimpse of what's new in the world of interior design. Three artists caught her eye:

Inspired by old Tole pieces he saw and restored, self-taught artist Tommy Mitchell began creating his own botanical art ten years ago.

Mitchell, with the help of his wife, operate what they proudly call "a small and simple business," Tommy Mitchell Company Toleware & Beautiful Things.

Each piece of art is created and hand-signed by the artist himself and shipped from its birth place, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

NYIGF was the Mitchell's first show and Karen was delighted by his work.

"I love each and every piece, the work is so fun and beautiful. I now own a pair of Auricula which I have in my bedroom," Karen said.

No novice to the design world, Lisa Jarvis has owned an interior design business for most of her life. But when she woke one morning with the idea to design her own line of furniture and accessories, her design talents turned from table arrangements to table legs.

"I've always said, if I can't find it, I'll make it," Jarvis said.

So that's what she did. A week after her early morning epiphany, Jarvis was sending her drawings out to get prototypes.

Her designs are elegant and edgy, perfectly merging old world and modern elements to create a comfortable yet high-style feel.

After years of being an NYIGF shopper, Jarvis is proudly exhibiting her own work.

Karen loves her style and the fact that she works so seamlessly with her husband of 14 years.

"They have so much in common with John and I. Together they have created a beautiful and successful business."

The design for these graphic side-tables came from her diamond wedding ring.

Michele Varian, of Michele Varian Collective, has a knack for bringing nature-inspired art into the home is what caught Karen's eye.

"Her twist on nature and ability to make something new and funky from something old is so inspiring and fun," Karen said.

The inspiration for Michele Varian's geometric pillows and graphic wallpaper comes from American Indian designs and the flora and fauna that surrounded them.

All Varian's work and the work of artists she represents in her store in Downtown NYC are made in the USA.

New York was warm and sunny, the compliments on new products overwhelmingly positive and seeing old friends and making new ones the highlight of our trip.

Creativity Runs in the Family

Over the holidays Karen was delighted to meet a member of the Gambardella family, Aunt Theresa, who is an excellent painter. Aunt Theresa just turned 90 and is perfecting the art of oil painting. She particularly loves painting water scenes.

Her remarkable talent and shared love for the ocean was too wonderful not to show-off.

Faux Tortoise

Karen and her team of artists have painstakingly perfected the art of faux tortoise, which will be available on finials, obelisks and the 4" moulding of a 32 x 40" beveled mirror.

We will be showing our new hand-painted faux tortoise finial at NYIGF.

Casart Wall Coverings

Our signature colors and patterns are now available as removable, reusable wall coverings thanks to our new partnership with Casart Coverings, llc.

Casart offers Karen’s designs in wall coverings to complement her marine-themed home elements. Designs include rope knots, nets and marine inspired designs plus a clever concept for using 3 to 24 inch wide solid-colored stripes to achieve a striped effect -- all without needing to tape, meaure or paint. A single color or a combination of colors can result in a two-colored or three-colored design. These can be installed vertically or horizontally by peeling off the backing sheet and sticking to the wall with the wallcoverings' pressure sensative, self adhesive that makes it easy for installation and to reposition,

remove and even reuse.

Surprise Photo Shoot

The week following High Point Marketweek has been exciting and exhausting. So many new projects are underway and we have been overflowing with creative new ideas.

We spent a full day staging Karen's house for a huge photo shoot.

Sally, our secret shopper, found these fabulous orange oars for us. They were exactly what we needed for the dock photo shoot.

Thanks Sally, we couldn't do it without you!

The weather has been blustery and overcast today and the birds just love it. The back yard and lake has been fluttering with snowy white egrets and great blue herrings. We took a few minutes this afternoon to watch an anhinga do a balancing act against the wind on one of the slippery oars.

Wednesday we had a visit from some of our most fabulous customers - the ladies from Casa Miscellany in Panama City, Panama. They were here stocking up for the opening of their second decoration and gift store.

They say our art is "beautiful to show, they sell by themselves."

Sunday at High Point

Yesterday was an exciting day. We were honored with a red ribbon cutting ceremony in celebration of our show debut. Look for the pictures in the Home Accents Today later this week.

Also Karen was interviewed by Trowbridge Gallery - the number one supplier of fine art reproductions, who will be reproducing some of Karen's originals. We are excited about the new partnership and looking forward to working with them.
